On the face of it the Phoenix appears like any other 125cc bike in its segment though certain styling and convenience features differentiate it from the rest in its segment and make it more appealing. These include a backlit digital speedometer with amber backlight a digital fuel gauge a low battery reminder a trip meter service reminder and soft touch switchgear. The bike also comes with petal disc brake at the front and andldquocar-likeandrdquo hazard lamps for enhanced safety. Another standout feature is the huge 125cc decal plastered on the tank that adds to the bikeandrsquos attractiveness and road presence.
Powering the motorcycle is a new 125cc andlsquoEcoThrustandrsquo motor that develops 11PS of power and 10Nm of torque. The lean burning engine is mated to a four-speed gearbox and delivers a mileage of 67kmpl according to TVS. To improve ride comfort TVS has employed a five-step adjustable series spring suspension and high response damper.
The Phoenix marks TVSandrsquo re-entry into the competitive 125cc executive segment ruled by the Bajaj Discover 125ST Honda CB Shine and Hero Super Splendor. Its first 125cc product was the TVS Flame which didnandrsquot quite set the sales charts on fire. However TVS hopes the Phoenix will help it rise from the ashes (just as the mythological bird) and regain its position as the countryandrsquos No.3 bike maker.
